NPTEL full form is National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning
NPTEL is changing the ed-tech landscape in an unprecedented way in India. With 81,63,683 students enrolled, it’s the most accessed library of peer-reviewed educational content in the world.
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is an initiative by 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Madras ,Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) funded by Ministry of Human Resource and Development started in 2003.
NPTEl focus on civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering and mechanical engineering.
The basic objective of NPTEL in the field of science & engineering education in India is to devise and guide reforms that will transform India into a strong and vibrant knowledge economy thriving onto becoming the next big thing in technology.
In this context, the focal areas for NPTEL project have been
>> Higher education (Focus – Grassroot level knowledge sharing)
>> Professional education (Focus – Global standard knowledge sharing)
>> Distance education and continuous and open learning (Focus – Cost should not be constraint for learning)
With lack of educational infrastructure in the country the need for a platform like National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is a boon for the majority of the population who were not able to access the world of learning in such a manner & is a cause for greater good in strengthening the back-bone of educational reforms which was much awaited for a country of 130 crore.
